Game 8: Ramblers vs Central Queens

Jul. 20 - 2021

Game 8: Ramblers vs Central Queens Loss 5-2

Although this wasn't the result the girls had dearly wanted, it was a well played game with a lot of back and forth action. I believe we shocked them coming out strong with Addison as Striker, Riley as mid, Arya on the right and Gray on the left. These girls immediately took it to the net for 2 goals (by Addison) within the first 6 minutes of the game! This was the strongest & most skilled start to a game I have seen this season, it was very impressive. I could see the drive and concentration in their playing. Losing isn't anyone's favourite, but pushing yourselves to play harder, smarter and under pressure by another skilled team is what a team needs to become better. Look forward to these challenging games, have fun, push yourself and embrace the competition. I hope you all feel a sense of accomplishment. Everyone was invested in this game, the girls on the sideline couldn't get enough cheering and hanging on their toes at every shot. The positive support these girls have for each other is up-lifting. And of course, to have your own skinny chicken leg song & dance led by Meredith after the game is beyond awesome.

Addison & Riley are a power duo up front, they have a rapport when they play. Meaning they understand each others playing and communicate well with each other. Addison really knows how to touch the ball forward and get past defence for shots at the net. At half, I looked at Riley when I said I need my mid-forward to really run back on defence and play hard in the forwards. Well, I have never seen such fast sprinting from one end the field to the other! Riley ran back on defence, won the ball, ran through the opposition all the way to the oppositions net and continued to play like this for a shift and half! Above and beyond Riley. Riley was one of the MVP's for such drive. Amazing work girls!

Meredith & Sutton played defence the whole game as their skills were much needed here. You girls are unreal.

Sienna & Janessa played defence and forward. They are both strong players everywhere on the field. Janessa was given MVP for her tireless drive and skill in both positions. Wherever Janessa plays you know she has the ability to win the ball, run with it, pass and shoot. She is fast, smart & very skilled. Well done girls.

Arya, Gray & Scarlett played in the forwards. These girls had a lot of running to do, this was like a ping pong game on how fast the ball moved up and down the field. Excellent work girls. Scarlett I want to see you put more pressure on the opposition from behind. Chase them down ;)

Sydney & Bridget played goalie and defence, with Bridget playing a shift as mid-forward. I am so proud of how hard these girls work in every game. Being a goalie is tough! They both really enjoy this position, I recommend signing up for goalie programs next year. There is so much you can learn about this position that only another goalie can teach you. Both Sydney & Bridget pass well and run hard, keep it up!

Leila played striker and in the forwards. Leila really incorporates what she learns in practice to the game. She asks questions and when discussing it, answers her own questions. Leila continuously learns about the game and puts her learning to the task. I am always impressed by how she plays, whether it's winning the ball, getting by defence, shooting, protecting the ball in the corner till a teammate comes to help, she can do it! Well done Leila!

There are 2 season games left, I look forward to seeing how you will bring the drive from this game up a notch for the next one. Have fun and want the ball!
