Game 7: Ramblers vs Kensington

Game 7: Ramblers vs Kensington Win 6-5

I think many of us left the game thinking it was a tie, when in fact it was a win! That is how close this game was. Weather wise, it was the hottest game to date and you could see the affect of the heat on the girls. I shook the game plan up sending girls out in different positions they don't always spend a lot of time in, and that also affected the game, but in a good way. At half we were up by 2-3 goals, in the second half Kensington quickly scored numerous goals to tie us. I think this surprised us as we had it in our heads that the last time we played then this was a much easier game...and maybe we learned a lesson not to assume anything when going into a match. They had a player or two that wasn't in the last game, and they had obviously been practising hard and the results were impressive. It definitely felt like swimming in sand to get this game back under our belts. The girls hiding under the shade of the tree on the sideline came out beside me, with only minutes left, we were on the edge of toes cheering on our team in hopes that they could get just one more goal.....Sutton did it!

Meredith & Sutton Meredith started as mid-forward and got her first goal of the season! She continued through most of the game in the wings till we needed her back in defence for the last few minutes of the game to keep the ball away from our net. Loved it Meredith, you were so great! Sutton, who has been determined to get a goal this season did just that, not once but twice! Sutton received MVP for her hard work and determination. When you put your mind to something and steadily work hard at it, great things happen. The whole team felt your goals Sutton and we are all so proud to have been apart of it. Unreal!

Gray & Scarlett both played in the wings and Scarlett started as Striker. Scarlett had numerous shots on net and played her best game yet. When playing Striker I want you to shoot harder at the net, don't worry about the action around you, take the pass, touch to control and just shoot. Great work Scarlett, keep it up because I want to see more of this! Gray ran hard all game, what a force you have become! You won the ball, sprinted to be first and pressured hard. Great game girls!

Sienna, Molly, Addison & Riley played a lot of excellent defence in this game. Whereas Sienna often plays everywhere, it was not the other girls usual role, and when you switch a role it is an adjustment to a different job that a player needs to fill. Near the end of the game they were pulled back to the wings and striker which led to Riley's goal that was made with beautiful passes from her teammates. Sienna I love how much you love to play, and that you love to play every position with your whole being. Well done ladies!

Sydney & Arya played defence and forwards positions. They were everywhere the ball was, sprinting, passing and working hard. I love how these girls always play as hard as they can and are happy and positive on and off the field. Be confident because you are amazing.

Bridget played goalie the whole game. As much as we wanted to give her a boring game, it ended up being quite an exciting back and forth game. Great job Bridget, you saved many goals! When you stop the ball in action, I would like you to roll it hard to your defence as opposed to throwing it high in the air to them. This will make it easier for them to receive and gives them a rolling ball to turn with to dribble or to pass with. Hard work out there and you did it!

Leila scored 2 goals in this game as striker and right forward. Leila does a move that wins her the ball every time. I often demo it during practice and would like more girls to try. When the opposition has the ball and and they slow down thinking of how to get by you, step in and place your foot & body between the ball and the opposition, now you have the ball! Turn and run with it or make a pass. I have seen Leila do this every game and it wins her the ball every time. Amazing work Leila, keep it up!

There are only 3 league games left! So let's play each of those games as hard as we can, with everything we have and have a blast doing it. I want to see everyone give everything they have, try whatever you want! Try to head the ball or take the ball with your chest, shoot as many times as possible, laugh out loud playing. Having fun is the most important ingredient.
