What is the U9 Stretch Soccer Program?

 

U5 Summer Program (Players born 2017 & 2018)

Development Emphasis: Physical literacy, ball control and game understanding.

Genders: Co-ed.

Season Length: 10 weeks (1st two weeks are assessment + 8 week regular program)June 10th - August 19th, no session on July 1st.

Day: Fridays. 

Location: Terry Fox Sports Complex - Soccer Turf Field.

Time: 5:00 to 6:00 pm or 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Leadership: The Club provides curriculum/session plans. Paid Grassroots Lead Coaches (the Club’s summer students) oversee the sessions, paid teenage coaches run the stations and parent volunteer helpers manage each grouping of players. All coaches and parent volunteers are certified and have received appropriate training in coaching and managing children.

Overview: The first two weeks of the program are player assessments. The goal is to create four groups of players based on putting like with like. These are groups and not teams. They are based on putting players of similar ability and focus together. After assessments, the remaining eight weeks of the program run with a pre-planned practice for each session provided by the Club with activities/exercises that fit the 4-station format. Each group goes through the four stations and has the benefit of working with and learning from all of the coaches. What group a player gets assigned to could change week to week.

Provided: Jersey and ball.

Requirements: Shin guards covered by soccer socks or long socks. Cleats are recommended but not required. No jewelry or wearable devices (with the exception of medical). Bring a personalized water bottle that is not to be shared with other players.

U7 Summer Program (Players born 2015 & 2016)

Development Emphasis: Physical literacy, ball control and game understanding.

Genders: Separate female and male sessions.

Season Length: 10 weeks (1st two weeks are assessment + 8 week regular program) June 7th to August 11th.

Day: Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Location: Terry Fox Sports Complex - Football Turf Field (Boys); Soccer Turf Field (Girls).

Time: 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Leadership: The Club provides curriculum/session plans. Paid teenage coaches and volunteer parent helper led. Grassroots Lead Coach (the Club’s summer students) provide support and coach the coaches. All coaches and parent volunteers are certified and have received appropriate training in coaching and managing children.

After assessments, the remaining eight weeks of the program run with a pre-planned practice for each session provided by the Club with activities/exercises that fit the 4-station format. Each team goes through the four stations and has the benefit of working with and learning from all of the coaches. What group a player gets assigned to could change week to week. Each week after the stations are complete, each team is matched up in a 3-on-3 game against another team. No scores or standings are kept.

U9 Stretch Soccer Program (Players born 2013 & 2014)

 

To participate in this program players must first be registered for the U9 Summer Soccer program.

 

Development Emphasis: Game understanding, ball control and athleticism while challenging players to push their comfort zones. While this could be seen as the equivalent of a U9 AA hockey program, there are no tryouts. Any player who is motivated by a more competitive and learning-oriented environment is welcome to partake.

Genders: Separate female and male sessions, maximum 16 players per gender.

Season Length: 16 weeks (May 18 to August 31). One training session per week in May, early June and late August (8-10 training sessions in total). One game per week against a U9 team from another Island soccer club during late June, July and early August (6-8 games in total).

Day: Wednesdays. 

Location: Terry Fox Sports Complex - Soccer Turf Field. All training sessions will be held here and some games. Some games will require you to travel to play at another soccer field within Charlottetown or the surrounding area.

Time: Girls 5:30 to 6:30 pm; Boys 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  For days that are games, the times and locations of away games are to be announced.

Leadership: The Club provides curriculum/session plans. Training sessions are run by the Club’s Technical Director and games are led by the Grassroots Lead Coaches (the Club’s summer students). All coaches are certified and have received appropriate training in coaching and managing children.

Overview: The first two sessions in mid May are open house sessions. This is an opportunity for any U9 player and their parents to experience the Stretch Soccer environment. After that, up to 16 players per gender can be taken in the program. Players who have registered but feel it is not the right fit or that we feel are not ready to be stretched yet will be refunded their fee. The next few sessions through June are training sessions where all players will learn basic aspects of attacking, defending and goalkeeping. Games against other clubs begin in July and run through to mid-August. Some games will be in Cornwall while others will involve travel to other Island clubs. The program ends with a few more training sessions at the end of August and wraps up with participation in a tournament or exhibition games against U11 White Division teams (White is the lower ability tier of U11).

Provided: Game/Training jersey.

Requirements: Players must be able to attend 75% (15 of the 20) scheduled Wednesday training sessions and games. Wear the provided program jersey to training and games. Purchase and wear the Club shorts and socks. Shinguards covered by soccer socks. Cleats. No jewelry or wearable devices (with the exception of medical). Bring a personalized water bottle that is not to be shared with other players.

Fee: $60 + cost of shorts and socks (the program jersey is covered by the $60 and players get to keep them
